2005 Ford Mustang:
J. Mays, Ford Motor Company vice president of Design, J Mays tells us that this concept comes within spitting distance of the actual production car that is expected to hit the showrooms as a 2005 model. While this concept is configured as a 2 seater, the production car will be a 2+2 just like Mustangs of old.
It is expected that, Initially the new mustang will be available as a convertible and a slick fastback like the one pictured above. It will share the same platform that the Thunderbird is now using which is also shared by the Lincoln LS and Jaguar S-Type.
There are heavy styling cues from the late '60 'stangs with a touch of Shelby Cobra thrown in for good measure. At the unveiling of these Mustang concepts at the North American International Car Show in Detroit, I heard something I don't often hear. Amid the super-loud musical fanfare, complete with strobe lights and smoke, two cars were driven out onto the stage, a silver fastback coupe and a red convertible, to be greeted by loud cheering and applause from the hard-to-impress throng of automotive journalists from around the world. These Mustangs hit our sweet spot and I for one can't wait to tear up some asphalt with one.
