On warm summer days the temperature inside a parked car can reach up to 120 degrees in minutes, even if a window is open slightly. If you leave your dog or cat in the car while you run some errands, you are putting your pet at risk of potential brain damage or heatstroke.

Hot cars are just one danger animals face when the weather gets warm. Certain animals, just like humans, are prone to sunburn and skin cancer. The Humane Society of the United States advises that pets with light-colored noses or light-colored fur on their ears should have those parts protected with sunscreen in order to keep them safe.
