Podiatric Medicine
Podiatric medicine and surgery is practiced by licensed Doctors of Podiatric Medicine or DPM's. Podiatry is a branch of medicine devoted to the study, diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle and lower leg. Podiatric physicians or surgeons treat various foot and ankle problems like bunions, heel pain, spurs, ingrown toenails, corns, calluses, hammertoes, neuromas, warts, sprains, fractures, and infections.
Foot problems affect many people. Foot injuries and foot pain are a widespread health problem especially in the USA and too often are neglected. A podiatrist will even prescribe and fit patients with inserts called orthotics that help to correct walking patterns in patients.
